In the ever-evolving medical device industry, Research and Development is at the core of most everything we do. Since joining Syntheon in 2004, Derek’s leadership has impacted projects that have delivered hundreds of millions in sales for industry leaders Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic and more. His success came as no surprise; his previous positions had prepared him well.
After college, a first job found him directing operations at Miami Fire Equipment where he designed fire suppression systems as state certified fire suppression contactor. Derek next spent five years with Environmental Aeroscience Corp (eAc) directing projects for exacting clients including DARPA and the USAF. Under his leadership, the hybrid propulsion system for the Scaled Composites Space Ship One was a notable success.
Interestingly, he had also designed and built the propulsion system for the Civilian Space Exploration Teams’ GoFast launch vehicle. Its motor, boasting 450 pounds of solid propellant, made it the largest civilian solid rocket motor every made. In May of 2004 when it reached an altitude of 72 miles, it became the first non-government vehicle in space, ironically beating Space Ship One by a few weeks. http://ddeville.com/rockets.htm.
Derek is a Miami native and graduated from Westminster Christian School and Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
